Large, medium and small cities – all face the same challenges: Budgets are tight, citizens want to participate in decision-making processes, they demand better services and new jobs. The MAJOR CITIES OF EUROPE CONFERENCE 2012 provided a platform for CIOs and IT managers from European cities to exchange experiences and discuss lessons learned in terms of how to encounter these issues.

The event took place in Vienna City Hall, from June 4th to June 6th 2012 with more than 260 participants from the private and the public sector that followed numerous presentations and workshops dealing with the question how much ICT can drive the city of tomorrow.

One of the workshops led by the Austrian Federal Chancellery addressed the currently running and upcoming EU large scale pilots (EPSOS, PEPPPOL, SPOCS, STORK, E-SENS) by demonstrating their purpose, how they work and their practical impact on natural and non-natural persons within the European Union.
