Editorial

Dear readers,

Lots of interesting news, initiatives and publications sparking in the November edition of our SPOCS newsletter. Economic growth and improving Europe’s competitiveness depend on the development of a true Single Market. Emergence of a true Single Market, however, requires businesses to be able to easily expand their activities into other countries, entering new markets to maximise their potential.

Isolated national IT-systems in Member States' administrations create new digital borders in Europe and consequently hamper the (digital) Single Market. The EC launched five LSPs- e-CODEX (e-Justice), epSOS (eHealth), STORK - STORK 2.0 (eID), PEPPOL (eProcurement) and SPOCS (eBusiness)- aiming to build digital bridges between the existing national systems in order to overcome these borders. They are the cornerstone for implementing common solutions to deliver online public services and make them accessible throughout Europe.

These initiatives will need your help. You have the opportunity to influence developments, provide feedback and make proposals by participating in one of the following groups while registering at www.eu-spocs.eu:

In the next edition of our SPOCS newsletter, our team will share the latest updates on the project, interesting initiatives, articles and publications and upcoming events that have caught our interest.

With this said we hope you enjoy catching up on our latest! We encourage all of you to build, connect and grow!

Regards,

The SPOCS Newsletter Team

Thanks to EU funding and coordination, the building blocks of new digital services, such as eProcurement, eID, business mobility, and even electronic patient records, have already been developed. These are the results of five Large Scale Pilot Projects (LSPs): e-CODEX (e-Justice), epSOS (eHealth), STORK - STORK 2.0 (eID), PEPPOL (eProcurement) and SPOCS (eBusiness). LSPs Solutions are built on top of available national/regional infrastructures and allow smooth exchange and share of data to easily access the services. Indeed, the LSPs "build the bridges" between national IT-systems by developing interoperable solutions. The pilots enable public administration and business to build new solutions, connect to the Union and to grow.

A "Roadshow" was launched with a series of events, which all aim to raise the awareness for and enhance the visibility of achievements and benefits of the five current LSPs. Two roadshow events took place the past few months:

Do you believe that EU should be treated as one territory where people, money, goods and services interact freely to stimulate competition and trade and improve efficiency?Do you believe that EU should be treated as one territory where people, money, goods and services interact freely to stimulate competition and trade and improve efficiency?

That is the idea behind the Single Market! The increased choice of goods and services will raise quality and cut prices. It is the basic recipe for prosperity. The Single Market is one of the European Union’s greatest achievements. This year, we mark the 20th anniversary of the Single Market, which has not only fuelled economic growth but has also become a part of the everyday life of Europeans. In the framework of the Single Market Week (15-19/10/2012) a lot of events took place like the one in Greece where SPOCS and STORK 2.0 were present.
